2019 SRSA Select Rules and Guidelines

What is “Select”?


“Select” is a program developed by USA Softball designed to allow high performing girls to practice and/or play games together, once a week, during the recreational season.  Select teams are additional teams within the league that high performing girls may participate in.  These girls will be on a rec. team and the select team.

If chosen to participate on a select team, this team would be in addition to their respective recreational team for the 2019 recreational season. Select teams are only for 10U, 12U, and 14U division players. Players who wish to participate on select teams and who are ultimately chosen to participate should aspire to be on the gold all-star teams for the 2019 All Star Season. Therefore, to be considered for select team participation, players and parents must commit to the following:

  • Understand that the select team requires an additional day of practice or game(s) per week from February-May. This additional day of practice or game(s) might be on Sunday. Can your daughter commit to this additional time requirement?
  • Girls who play on a select team may NOT participate in travel ball activities (practices or games) after March 31st.
  • Understand that your daughter must participate in at least 75% of her recreational team’s games to be eligible for the select team.
  • Understand that by participating on the select Team, this does not guarantee your daughter will ultimately be selected and/or play on the gold All Star team.
  • Will your daughter be available for ALL All-Star Tournaments from May 2019 through June 2019?
  • Will your daughter be available to play in the North San Diego District Tournament on June 21, 2019 - June 23, 2019?
  • If you can’t commit to this and/or have a conflict(s), please explain why. 
  • Will your daughter be available for the SoCal State Tournament in Lancaster, CA on July 5, 2019 – July 7, 2019. Please also understand there are additional costs associated with this commitment.


If you can’t commit to any of these and/or have any conflict(s), you will need to be able to explain why. 


USA Softball Select Team Guidelines


USA Softball has implemented guidelines for all leagues to follow.

  • Select B for 10U, 12U, 14U
  • Multiple Select Teams for each division
  • Select B players must have been registered in a league the previous season.
  • Players must play 75% of the regular league schedule.
  • Select teams may not have more than four players who have participated on a travel type team after February 1 of the current season.
  • A player who participated on a team other than a team in their recreational league after March 31 of the current season is not eligible for participation in “B” Classification Championship Play.
  • A select Team or player that participates in a USA Softball “A”, Gold or any non-USA Softball travel type qualifying event shall NOT be eligible for participation in “B” Classification Championship Play.
  • Silver and Bronze teams may petition to play C Districts and qualify for C states.
  • Select teams may only play/practice one day a week.
  • District commissioners will organize a game schedule for those who want to participate.
  • The Select Program will be in effect from January 1 through March 31 of the current season.



SRSA Select Team Rules


On the day of recreational season assessments, players interested in being considered for select teams will fill out a select team interest form and sign the all-star commitment letter.

 

The player agent will compile a list of girls who are interested in participating on a select team.  This list will be shared on draft day.

 

Coaches who are interested in managing a select team must submit a bio to the board.  Bios are due the day of recreational assessments.  The board will approve the candidates.  

 

Once the draft is complete and all registered girls have been placed on a team, the person running the draft will announce the candidates for select team managers.  All board approved Head and Assistant coaches will vote on the managers.  If there is a tie, only head coaches will vote.  If there is still a tie, the board will choose the select managers.  The board has the right to remove managers by the USA Softball deadline date and have the coaches vote to instate a new manager.

 

The elected managers will then choose the girls to be on the select team.  All head coaches and assistants will vote to approve the teams.  The Select managers will not necessarily be Gold managers.  See the all star guidelines. 

 

The board must ratify the teams that are approved by the coaches.  The board must also ratify the managers.  The manager may choose to invite other girls to participate on select teams as he/she chooses until the USA Softball deadline date.   Roster limits must meet the USA Softball guidelines.


The cost for the Select team is $75.

Being selected to a Select Team does not guarantee a spot on an all-star team.  Please see the all-star guidelines.
